The services we provide include:

Telephone and Information service - providing information about benefits and entitlements, support services and carers rights (including information about Carers Assessments); run activities to improve your health and wellbeing; and point you towards additional services that can support you in your caring role.

The Sitting Service - We understand how important it is for carers to have easy access to respite care. NPT Carers Service want to do our part to help.
We have a low-level volunteer sitting service to enable carers to take a short break for any purpose.
We also facilitate domiciliary care for those with higher care needs. This particular service is available to carers on an ad-hoc basis for medical appointments and occasional breaks. This higher-level service is dependent on funding, so we advise carers to contact us to discuss their needs.

An Outreach Support Service - Providing face to face advice and support in various community venues such as GP surgeries, hospitals, shopping centres and libraries.

Coffee Mornings and Activities - provide carers with a break from caring and meet with other carers for mutual support.

Home Visits - to complete carers assessments, provide information or assist with completing benefit forms.

NPT Carers Service works closely with its partners – Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council and Swansea Bay University Health Board – to ensure carers identified in Neath Port Talbot are provided with the right information at the right time.

Chair of NPT Carers
I am a married, family man with a teenage daughter and our Cockapoo. I have many interests in life including attending art class and being a long-term Swansea City FC season ticket holder!
A lifetime of working in the Hospitality Sector in many senior executive and leadership roles. I am proud to have been awarded several industry accolades over the years but most proud of the many people I have been fortunate to work with and to coach and encourage to achieve their work life goals and ambitions.
In my volunteer work I was privileged to be Vice Chair of Neath and Port Talbot OPC representing the needs and views of the over 50’s population. I learned a great deal from very experienced colleague Board members and others who commit themselves to the 3rd Sector and to the importance of the work.
I am a registered volunteer with Neath & Port Talbot CVS. It was as a result of conversations with some of the great people who work there that I was introduced to NPT Carers Service. My Mum cared for my Dad who so sadly suffered Alzheimer’s over some years, this influenced my decision to apply for the then vacancy. I was delighted to be appointed to the Board as Volunteer Trustee in November 2022. I am honoured to have been appointed to the role of Chair in November 2023 and support the NPT Carers Service Team improve the lives of the many unpaid carers in our region.
Lesley Matthews
Vice Chair
I became a trustee of NPT Carers Service in 2022 and I am honoured to be recently elected as Vice Chair in 2023. I am committed to supporting and improving the lives of unpaid carers in Neath Port Talbot and in enabling the staff to deliver such valuable and essential services across NPT.
Professionally, I have worked for Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council much of my working life, initially within in the Treasurers department, then within the Education Department supporting schools, young people, and their families.
The third sector has always played an important part of my life, I began volunteering for Girl-guiding at 18 years of age and have held many roles within the organisation. I am passionate about supporting adult volunteers and giving young people a voice and a platform to be heard.
Rita Patterson
Trustee
Becoming a trustee was an important step for me to take after studying at Trinity Saint David University Swansea gaining my BA (Hons) and PG Cert. A traumatic childhood and abandonment as a young adult after leaving social care, left me unsure, unattached, and emotionally berated. I became aware nothing had changed for the need for a listening ear and support that can be delivered in many forms throughout life.
I worked as a qualified Finance Programme and System Developer in Higher Education and the Army Sector, then moved to Management team in a large Holiday Leisure Park to care for the clients and staff. Ensuring that they were helped to receive the best service possible and ensure fair and just policies and practices were adhered too. I was throughout my working life a Chairperson/Treasurer of Unison. Carers don't have either time for themselves or time to attend everyday activities resulting in missing out on help and as a result experience isolation and loneliness. We need to look after and support the voices of those who look after many.
