The Importance of Volunteering

“In Volunteer’s Week Greg Thomas our CEO tells us about how much Neath Port Talbot Carers Service values the support that volunteers bring to our work.”

When I was asked last year to contribute comments and thoughts for Volunteer Week one of the key questions I recall focusing on was “why I thought volunteering is important?”

Well, 12-months on for lots of us working in the charity sector we continue to see the importance of our volunteers in supporting the work that we do as organisations, very often being the ‘silent voice’ that supports the wider work that we undertake with carers in our local communities.

For Neath Port Talbot Carers Service, we know that our Sitting Service would not be able to run as it does and that we would not be able to offer crucial periods of respite to carers and their loved ones. Volunteers help us deliver this service, with empathy, with a friendly face and always with the best interests of carers and their loved ones in mind.

We know that without volunteers our community activities and events would not be able to run as successfully as they do, reaching out to carers across many different communities and helping to provide fun activities with a purpose, often as a first step in engaging carers in longer term services.

And our volunteers have helped us shape what our social media and public presence looks like, taking part in feedback sessions and appearing in media clips promoting us as an organisation and the work that we do.

So, 12-months on….for us volunteering remains vitally important to what we do and to what we are as an organisation and on behalf of our Trustees and the staff at Neath Port Talbot Carers Service, I would like to thank all of our volunteers for what they do and how they do it!

We simply couldn’t do what we do without you – thank you!
