WE CARE FOR CARERS
Neath Port Talbot Carers Service was launched in April 2009 to support the unsung heroes who care for loved ones unable to look after themselves.
Not everyone who does this thinks of themselves as a carer, but caring responsibilities make huge demands on their lives. Our aim is to help unpaid carers recognise their caring role and to provide carers aged 18+ in Neath Port Talbot with advice, information and support.
THE SITTING SERVICE
There are so many everyday tasks and activities most of us take for granted, but carers are often unable to leave the person they care for alone. Although being a carer can be a rewarding experience, it can often impact on a person’s health and wellbeing.
Our sitting service is designed to help carers take breaks from their caring responsibilities. Maybe you need to attend a medical appointment, a special social event, have a haircut, meet with friends, attend an exercise class, go out shopping, or attend a job interview.
Sometimes you simply need to catch up on some sleep, or undertake DIY or gardening chores without any distractions. Our team can step in so you can feel like the rest of your life is more under control.
Our sitting service is provided on 2 levels
1 . A volunteer service provided to those with low level care needs.
This service can be used to take a break for any reason at all.
2. A higher level service provided by a care agency for those with higher care needs.
At present this service is provided specifically for the carer to attend medical appointments
and one-off special occasions only and depends on our funding at the time of the request.
